Student Travel Grant

Student Travel Grant

NetSoft 2023 offers on a competition basis a limited number of travel grants to the students who registered and attend on-site NetSoft 2023. Student Travel Grants are sponsored by the two following organizations:

  • IEEE Communications Society
  • the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation

The amount of each Student Travel Grant is 600.00 US Dollars (or roughly the equivalent 550.00 Euros).

Participation from underrepresented groups and diverse institutions across all geographical regions is encouraged. Women, minorities, beginning graduate students, and first-time conference attendees, are especially encouraged to apply.

Each award is subject to the transmission of receipts regarding travel expenses spent to attend NetSoft 2023.

Important Dates

  • STG Application Submission deadline: May 5, 2023
  • Advisor’s Recommendation deadline: May 10, 2023
  • Notification of Acceptance/Rejection: May 20, 2023

Though there is only one single Application process, both types of STGs have slightly different eligibility criteria. The STG Selection Committee will thus make sure that STG assignment meets each requirement as follows:

To be eligible to an IEEE ComSoc STG (in US Dollars), the applicant should meet the following requirements:

  2. The student applicant must be a co-author of an accepted paper in NetSoft 2023 and attend the conference in person.
  3. The student applicant must be a student member of the IEEE Communications Society and provide their ComSoc membership number.
  4. The student applicant must show proof of having registered to attend the NetSoft 2023 conference.

Student Travel Grants from the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation

To be eligible to a STG (in Euros) sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation through PRTR and the European Union - NextGenerationEU, for the promotion of telecommunications studies in Spain, see the following requirements:

  2. The applicant must be any student enrolled in any university out of Spain, or who had never been enrolled in a Spanish university.
  3. The student applicant must attend the conference in person (but no need to be an Author)
  4. The student applicant must show proof of having registered to attend the NetSoft 2023 conference.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through EDAS. The following materials must be provided:

  • Student’s up-to-date CV / Resume. This document should include citizenship and study level (undergraduate or graduate); the document may include ethnicity and gender (optional, used to broaden the participation of under-represented students).
  • Student Statement Letter. A half to one-page letter from the student should include the following information: (1) A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date (students should demonstrate a serious interest in NetSoft topics, through their coursework and projects). (2) A statement on the purpose of attending the conference. (3) if applicable, the title of co-authored paper(s) with the list of co-authors.
  • Conference Registration Confirmation Number. Applicants must register to attend the conference. If you have already registered, have your registration confirmation ready. To view the registration page, click here {insert link to registration page}.
  • Estimate of the Travel Costs. This is just a rough estimate of what the grant money would be used towards, including conference registration, airfare, and hotel.
  • IEEE ComSoc Student Membership Number (if appropriate). Only applicants who provide a valid Student membership of IEEE ComSoc will be considered for the ComSoc STG.

All this information must be included in a single zip file named ApplicantName_STG. zip. Please comply with this requirement.

The Call for STG will be open on April 18, 2023, and will close on May 5, 2023.

Click on EDAS link to start the application: https://edas.info/G.php?g=726.

Once the Application is completed before the deadline, the student’s advisor indicated by the student will be invited to provide a recommendation. The STG application is considered as finalized only when the advisor recommendation is completed.

STG Selection

The STG recipients will be selected by a STG Committee coordinated by the two STG co-Chairs. The decision will be made after a thorough analysis of applications that have been duly completed as above-mentioned.

Incomplete applications or applications with no Advisor’s recommendation by the deadline will not be considered.

Payment of STG

Payment of STG will only be made after the conference to STG recipients who have attended the conference and who submit the expense report (with receipts) to respectively IEEE ComSoc or the Spanish authorities within 45 days after the conference. More details will be provided to the students who are selected to receive a Travel Grant award.
